Graveyard Tunnel

This was taken last week in the graveyard of the Anglican Cathedral in the city centre. It is a really peaceful place right in the middle of the busy city.

Beeston Castle

I went to Beeston Castle just outside of Liverpool near the town of Chester. Despite being on my doorstep I had never been before. It was lovely.

The Hills Have Holes

Today I went up to see the sculpture THE DREAM but unfortunately because of the sky and the colour of the sculpture clashing somewhat, not a lot of the photos I took of it came out well at all. This is a view over St Helens/Runcorn taken through a metal loop on a bench!

Train Lady.

Taken from a moving train on a wet day at Formby train station outside of Liverpool.

Busker

This guy was playing outside the Cavern this afternoon. There was a load of tourists about and I think he was cleaning up.

Went to Southport. It rained.

I went to Southport today. Southport is a seaside town about 25 miles from Liverpool. I had planned to go to the fun fair to take some pictures as it is still closed this time of year. But it rained. Again. So I went home. This is the pier. It is very long. So long it has it's own tram. These are the tracks.

Helpful sign.

It was actually sunny-ish today so I got to take the new camera out for a walk around the city centre. Took this one on my way home. A very helpful sign indeed.

Bird Boxes

In the city centre today and noticed these colourful bird boxes outside the Bluecoat. Never noticed them before.

Tuesday 17 May 2011

I actually went out today.

Even though the rain persists, I had to go outside today. I had errands to run in the city centre, including the purchase of a tripod for my new camera. This photo is of the now closed Lewis' department store. You can read more about it HERE. It is a fabulous building and every Christmas one entire floor would be given over to Santa's Grotto. You knew it was Christmas when your mother would take you to the 5th floor of Lewis'!

Lazy Post. Apologies, its rained a lot these last few days.

This was taken a few days ago. More contemporary photos will hopefully follow when the weather brightens up at the end of the week. I want to start using the SLR but I do not want to take it out in the rain. This is one of the houses I grew up in. Its been pretty much left to rot now which is a shame. This is again in Bootle.

Look hard for the man on the bike!

There is a man on a bike underneath the railway bridge, honest :) This was taken a couple of days ago as it has rained all day today and I did not want to go outside! Taken in Bootle, behind the Strand shopping centre. When the man rode past he gave me a wave!

Back to the waterfront.

I went back down to the waterfront today to test my new camera. Kept it on auto as it still scares me a little bit. The outward facing Liver Bird. My favourite building in the city centre.

Street Photography Experiments

Today I was out and about with a very talented photographer friend of mine (www.amyart.co.uk). While she was taking some photos for her portfolio I was busy trying my hand at street photography.

Another of my favourites from today. When I see a tunnel I can't help myself. This had the added bonus of someone having a crafty cigarette :)

Discount Lennon.

The discount part of today's double feature was taken this morning. I had gone to visit my grandfather and do some food shopping for him. The nearest supermarket to where he lives is called Netto, it is one of those discount places. This is in a suburb of the city called Netherton, taken on the approach to the entrance. I edited it slightly using Photoshop Elements 9 (amazing software) to take the upper ends of the two posts off to see more of the trees.

The second of today's photos is of course, the statue of John Lennon that we have leaning on the wall outside where the Cavern club used to be on Mathew Street. Since starting this blog I have been determined not to include anything Beatles related as the city has so much more to offer but today I couldn't resist.

Tuesday 10 May 2011

Self indulgent second post of the day :)

As you can tell, this is certainly not from Liverpool :) I got some software called Lightroom today as I was told it is good for beginners to mess around with their photos. This is one of my first experiments with it. Taken from the Champ du Mars.

Back off holidays.

Well I went away to Paris with my girlfriend and did not know how to set my blog to auto update! I am a bit of a tech newbie. This is a photograph that I had a play with in an iphone app called Instagram. Taken outside St Georges hall in the city centre.

Lampost

This is one of the lampposts that are dotted around St George's Hall in the city centre. It's a lovely building. I walk past it every day and hardly ever climb the stairs for a closer look. I should. It is very nice.

Is There a Wedding On?

Apparently, there is some sort of Royal wedding tomorrow. It is fair to say that the city of Liverpool have not gone totally fuck nut crazy like the rest of the world! Apart from the big display at the main shopping arcade, these three measly strips of bunting were the only decorations around town today!

Two for One

I am posting two photos today as I forgot to do one yesterday! Well I am new at this after all. This is one of the many Liverpool Echo vendors who sit on their little chairs all day selling the local newspaper. It has been the same men on the same pitches for years and years. I love these guys.

This was taken in the park across the road from where I live. I live in a suburb of Liverpool called Bootle and this is one of three parks in my particular suburb. There is South Park, North Park and Derby Park. I plan to take my camera to Derby park at some point for this blog as it is a lovely Victorian park with some great buildings and a bandstand.

With the Tourists

So for my first photo I decided to go to the waterfront and be with the tourists. The weather was glorious today and there were a lot of tourists about. I was testing out my new Nikon camera before I unleash it upon Paris next week. After a while the battery ran down and my feet were getting a bit sore so I sat down for a cigarette next to the rubbish bin. I saw this grafitti and couldn't help myself, I took out my smart phone and snapped this using the polaroid setting on an app called Retro Camera. I'm not a massive fan of grafitti but I do like the sentiment :)

Liverpool Daily Photo

Welcome to my Liverpool Daily Photo. This is certainly not a new or original idea on my part! The reason I am doing this is that I am going on a lovely holiday to Paris very soon with my lovely girlfriend and while researching my trip I found Paris Daily Photo (www.parisdailyphoto.com). I was so enamoured by the blog that I have been through pretty much every page and loved every single photo.

From that I followed some links on the Paris Daily Photo site and found out that there was a whole host of these daily photo blogs in a network so I have decided to do my own! I doubt that I am the first to do a Liverpool version but it is where I have lived my whole life so the decision was out of my hands!

The plan is for me to start updating from tomorrow (25th of April) as it is getting late now and it is very dark out! I hope I can do this wonderful idea justice. Thank you for reading.
